Brilliant qualifying brings Kubica his first pole position. Maybe Ferrari and McLaren were light, but if so, not by much. This boy is the real deal. Bahrain GP is tomorrow.
Friday is here! Bring on the Battlestar
I’m sitting with Em, watching a pretty good Phillies game and waiting for the season premier of Battlestar. We had some tough times earlier, but some hugs and tears later, and some outstanding Chiwishi, we’re doing OK.
I think there’s not enough room between paragraphs, but that’s an admin issue. There are some updates and things that should be mentioned about ol’ MPomy.com. I’m a little disturbed about the URL and the referral. I would prefer for ‘mpomy.com’ to just take you right to this site, without the word ‘wordpress’ in the title. The problem is that I have to review the installation instructions. When I started with this thing, I didn’t know if this was going to work out. Seems like it is, so far.
I’ve got streaming audio with a nice little playlist. I’d almost like to get the thing to play on it’s own and scramble the selections, but I’m otherwise satisfied with that. Also, there are a lot of stupid decorations just thrown on to the ‘Music‘ page. These are silly, but they make me smile.
An issue I’m interested in is using the ‘categories’ feature to collect posts on different ‘pages’. For example, you should be able to access all the ‘law’ posts on the law page. Same with ‘motorsport’. So if I do a post about MpomyCo Orianna Momentum, that should be attached to the Motorsport page. Right now, of course, there is no Law page and there is currently nothing at the Motorsport page.
Law Blog – Trial Season
There really is no ‘trial season’ per se, but I’ve got a few going now so it’s a bit hectic. About two weeks ago, I wrapped up a little car case where I got negligence but no causation. We had a binding hi-low, so we were protected, but it was a situation where everyone but the client knew we should have settled. When the verdict came in, we were vindicated, but we missed out on a few of several thousand dollars because we let the client have the final say. Technically, that’s requied, but that doesn’t mean it’s always a good idea.
So, it’s Wednesday and I have a trial on Monday – good onliability but bad on causation. This could be an instant replay of what happened a couple weeks ago. There’s not a lot of pressure (as in the previous case), but I still am aching for a win.
There’s a catch-22 at work here becuase I want to be as thorough as possible, but I also want this to be a bit routine, so I get more comfortable with trial prep. Still working on trying to get that balance
As they say in the song…
‘Now we’re getting somewhere’
The music page has turned into a zone of experimentation. I’ve kept the header, but chucked the template. I had hoped to steal a template that would work for what I wanted to do (music player and links to categories), but nothing really worked. So, I found a widget (neon sign!) to do my dirty work. Code is poetry, but prewritten code is easy. It’s sort of funny that all the links and text, as well as widgets, all go in the snarfer.php template. It’s not really a template if it has all the content, is it?
I’m sort of fascinated that the Pages don’t lend themselves to blog entries. For example, I will do some law bloggin here and I want to attach a brief I wrote recently on an esoteric technicality in NJ Auto law. I would think there would be a possibility of having a companion or child blog under the main blog. Without having gone on an exhaustive search, it seems that all the blogging needs to be done right here. And then I’ll link to other stuff at a ‘Law’ page, like a pdf of that brief, for example.
Pages (with a capital ‘P’)
Here is a handy link that I may need later in order to get the Page customization I’m looking for.
Now we can get back to pages
I think that should close the book on favicons for the moment – what an epic. It didn’t help that one of the instruction dox was out of date, but that’s OK – everything is working fine now and I’ve got my little ‘Mp’ up in the corner.
The next task is to get the ‘Pages’ for music and video to look a bit different and to embed the mp3 player in a permanent position, as opposed to simply putting it in a post.
I have a favicon
How long did that take?!? How about almost two days! And I don’t even like it. But at least I now know how to do it. Sheesh!
OK, so now we’ve got streaming Audio
Great, but what do I do with this? I need to get it placed on the ‘Music’ page, but in such a way that it’s not in a post and not on the sidebar. How do I do this, WordPress?
The streaming code IS pretty cool, though.
Does this work?
To migrate or not to migrate…
Back in admin mode before bed. One of the most important aspects of the whole mpomy things is the music litstening group. It’s not all prog, but it is all good. It should be featured much more prominently on page one. Right now it’s just a tiny link off to the side. To give the links utmost prominence, they should reside on wordpress pages, but that’s like trying to reinvent the wheel. For now, they can sit on google pages, but with something more conspicuous on the wordpress homepage.
Tragedy just struck as I was preparing to praise last.FM. I’m sitting with the mac, which is really em’s computer, which only means less prog on iTunes. So I told last.FM to play a selection from my ‘neighbors‘ (other proggers), and VanDerGraf Generator ‘Man-Erg’ came up. Brilliant! Couldn’t have done any better with the progpod. And then I closed the page. Ouch! Still, a pretty impressive musical selection.
The reason that little tale of woe is in this admin post is that I need to use all that music in the listening group to start streaming music at the site. That would take it to another level…
