Eye-popping effects, yes, of course, but how about Idris Elba’s little pep talk at the end? Very Henry V-esque, I think.
He’s on the same side as you, he’s just a little bit behind
Street-legal Porsche 962
MotorHEAD モーターヘッド // Racing In The street : Group C Porsche 962 from Maiham-Media.com on Vimeo.
When I was a little boy, I had a calendar that featured stunning photography of these amazing endurance racing cars made by Porsche. They were some of the most successful cars in any type of racing and Stefan Bellof set the record at the Nurburgring in a similar 956 back in 1983 – in almost thirty years, no one has ever gone faster around that most challenging race track.
This video, about a 962 that is street-legal in Japan, speaks to all my pre-adolescent fantasies. I still think this is the most stunning and extraordinary vehicle every constructed.
Thankya, honey. DOGGONNITT!
I’m suggesting that you take a whole hour and watch this entire video
This performance has been been a big part of my life for several years now. I got the bootleg many years ago and fell for it right away. I had no idea that it was a trio appearance that was about 50% sequenced. I have looked askance at backing tracks and sequenced music when employed by rock bands to enhance their sound without adding (touring with and paying) additional musicians. U2, I am looking directly at you right now.
So, until tonight, I had no idea that such tactics had been employed in the transcendant 2002 Trilok Gurtu North Sea Jazz Festival appearance. I only had the audio portion and was unaware that the whole show was on youtube.
If you can’t be troubled to sit patiently, then just skip ahead to 24:50 and see what happens when tabla master Gurtu steps behind his drum kit. Swami DRUMS indeed!
But the real show here, even more extraordinary that Trilok’s other-worldy percussion, is the grace and perfection of Sabine Kabongo’s vocal performance. Her beauty and passion are a huge part of this entire performance, as they have always were in her days with Joe Zawinul.
One Voice. One Guitar. One Take.
I just wanted to go up there and see if a solo show would work…Obviously going up and doing ‘Big Love’ or ‘Never Going Back Again’ or some of these other songs that I’ve done before was something I was comfortable doing. Putting a whole show together by myself and having an arc that goes somewhere that holds people’s interest was really the challenge.
Lindsey Buckingham: One Man Show apparently will be digitally released on November 13, 2012.
Better than Facebook. Better than Twitter.
What Tumblr did instead was to design a more thoughtful form of community engagement by requiring people to repost content in its original context, rather than simply piping in an anonymous comment… Tumblr deliberately chose “reblogging” as an alternative to commenting because, at a certain scale, internet forums degenerate into a “horrible world of internet anonymousness and awfulness.”
Come and tumbl with me.
Perhaps this is what ushers in the storm of the century.
The lonesome stars
From Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory:
A new study using data from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope suggests a cause for the mysterious glow of infrared light seen across the entire sky. It comes from isolated stars beyond the edges of galaxies. These stars are thought to have once belonged to the galaxies before violent galaxy mergers stripped them away into the relatively empty space outside of their former homes.
We don’t own the ebooks we “buy”?
Nope. And yet, Amazon does use the word “purchase” to entice me to give them my money.
