So, it’s only ten minutes. Why not just watch the whole thing? At the end you get to see graphic diagrams for his built-from-the-ground-up-rhythm-madness, and you don’t want to miss that, right?

Undermind for @Gilli_es
While I may not be much of a Phish fan, hearing this song on local FarmFresh Radio as we were driving back from Burlington, VT, it just sounded SO right. Wish I was joining @Gilli_es at the show this Saturday, i think it’ll be a good one.
These Amon Tobin shows are going to be sick sick sick
Amon Tobin ‘ISAM’ Live Trailer from Ninja Tune on Vimeo.
I can’t tell if the 3D installation is going to be on tour with him or just at the Roundhouse in London, but even if it is a one-off, how amazing does this look?
The record ‘ISAM’ is very good, even as a purely aural experience. Check it out.
Trilok Gurtu – 21 Spices
There are a few artists for whom I have such great affection that I will purchase the music as soon as I learn of it, no matter what they have to offer on this latest release. Drummer, percussionist extraordinaire Trilok Gurtu is one such artist. Ever since having seen his magic act at the Charles Hotel in Boston, as part of his coming out party with the John McLaughlin Trio, I have been fascinated with, and ever-more delighted by Trilok.
With the passing of Zawinul 2007, I believe that Trilok is the greatest living link to limitless Jazz – music that collapses genres and spans the entire globe, while retaining its own, unique identity. No one did that better than Zawinul, but Trilok continues to push the envelope.
This latest release, featuring a well-known rock drummer and the Germany’s hottest big band is a delight right out of the box. I can’t wait to listen to it over and over, as I know am assured of discovering layer upon layer of genius.
Playlist for the Broad Street Run 10 Miler
Running with headphones is not always the best idea. For serious runners, it’s not allowed (even on marathons) and disqualifies competitors from obtaining championship points. For amateurs and hacks like myself, headphones are completely inappropriate for night or dark runs because of obvious safety concerns. But for yesterday’s Broad Street Run, a ten miler, headphones were not only ubiquitous, but perfectly reasonable, considering the fact that there is NO traffic and NO way to get lost. The run is literally a straight shot down Broad Street.
I like music for the longer runs, as it has the very welcome effect of distracting me from any difficulty or discomfort. The playlist for yesterday was made by selecting a bit more music than necessary, loading all onto my HTC Hero, so that ONLY those songs that had been selected would be played on the run, and then randomizing through the lot. Here’s how it came out:
Over The Hill – Van Der Graaf Generator
La Rossa – Van Der Graaf Generator
Over The Top – Pure Reason Revolution
Death Head – Kaki King
Cigano – Steve Winwood
People You Were Going To – Peter Hammill
Childlike Faith in Childhood’s End – Van Der Graaf Generator
Moja Ziemio Wyśniona – SBB
Echoes – Pink Floyd
Darkness 11/11 – Van Der Graaf Generator
Mantra The Lawn – Paul Gilbert
A Saucerful of Secrets – Pink Floyd
Monstrous and awesome Peter Hammill interview
I can’t get enough of this guy. I could listen to this shit all day.
Here’s what today’s run sounded like:
Please note that it’s in reverse chronological order – thus, I started with ‘Over The Hill’ and arrived back home with ‘Watcher’. All such brilliant stuff. And the new additions to the library from Van Der Graaf and Peter Hammill are really playing nicely with the old favorites.
This is HUGE!! – MIDI clock sync in iOS
I’ve been waiting for this. it feels like it’s been a long time. With the simplified protocols and integration, I can start jamming with iPad, use that as master clock, synch a DAW on the MacBook, and play along with guitar. Check out the video integrating two iOS devices:
I found out about the video and the tech via Synthtopia and the leading aps are being made by Finger, although Synthetic Bits‘ Funkbox is definitely in the mix.
