{"id":363,"date":"2009-05-19T23:01:40","date_gmt":"2009-05-20T03:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/?p=363"},"modified":"2009-05-19T23:01:40","modified_gmt":"2009-05-20T03:01:40","slug":"other-stuff-not-wayne-shorter-related","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/?p=363","title":{"rendered":"Other stuff (not Wayne Shorter-related)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>F1 racing<\/strong> &#8211; is getting ready to tear itself apart.\u00a0 Teams refuse to be subject to standardized technology and budget caps.\u00a0 To make matters worse, the proposed changes are voluntary, meaning that the 2010 Championship is expected to be a two tiered affair.\u00a0 I&#8217;m very much in favor of some measure of fiscal control on the sport, but standardized technology takes away a key element that is really integral to the tradition and definition of F1 racing.\u00a0 And a two-tiered championship is absolutely unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phillies<\/strong> &#8211; pulled out a nice squeeker tonight.\u00a0 Hamels gets the win, although it seems he&#8217;s not quite as sharp and dominant as he was last year.\u00a0 Same with Lidge &#8211; BIG TIME.\u00a0 But he did get the save tonight and was a damned entertaining game to listen to.\u00a0 Franzke is coming into his own (as Scott Graham did, a few years back) on those exciting calls at the end, particularly Lidge&#8217;s strikeout for out number two with two on in the bottom of the ninth.\u00a0 Nice job.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatever.scalzi.com\/\"><strong>John Scalzi<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; is a fine SciFi writer, a real professional.\u00a0 He&#8217;s been blogging prolifically since 1998.\u00a0 That&#8217;s some pretty good output for one guy.\u00a0 Getting the benefit of really good writing on a daily basis is quite a treat.\u00a0 But when its Scalzi&#8217;s twisted sense of humor, well then it&#8217;s priceless.\u00a0 And, hey, it is priceless, totally free!\u00a0 He recently featured an interview with a stick of butter, and today confronts his inner geek as he contemplates the purchase of a new computer powerful enough to play fancy new games:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As an example of this problem, note the picture above, of CyberPower PC\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberpowerpc.com\/system\/LAN_Party_Commander\/\">Lan Party Commander<\/a>.\u201d Leaving aside the name of the PC, which screams \u201cI am encrusted in the residue of Cheetos and Mountain Dew,\u201d this rig is one of the more subtly-designed of the gaming rigs CyberPower puts together, and it <em>still <\/em>looks like a cooling tower at Chernobyl.
