{"id":265,"date":"2009-05-05T11:38:40","date_gmt":"2009-05-05T15:38:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/?p=265"},"modified":"2009-05-05T11:38:40","modified_gmt":"2009-05-05T15:38:40","slug":"go-easy-on-the-guys-with-the-duckies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/?p=265","title":{"rendered":"Go Easy On The Guys With The Duckies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/5_1169.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-266\" title=\"5_1169\" src=\"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/5_1169-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"5_1169\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/5_1169-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/mpomy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/5_1169-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/mpomy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/5_1169.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now is not the time to get into the whole psycho-babble, post-mortem, facilitated encounter (i.e. the cancer retreat), but a few quick notes are absolutely required at this moment.<\/p>\n<p>My bad feelings, chronicled below, are not the result of mismanagement or poor execution by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nextstepnet.org\/index.php\">the people who set this thing up<\/a>.\u00a0 For all I know, they are the Michael Jordan of young adult cancer retreats.\u00a0 My problem was that I went somewhere, emotionally, that I didn&#8217;t plan on going, and that kinda sorta set me off.\u00a0 It was a &#8216;safe place&#8217; (more jargon!!), and, by all accounts, I recovered quickly.\u00a0 The over-arching impression at this point is that I&#8217;m glad I went and the result is positive and valuable.<\/p>\n<p>The cooling-off period has been essential.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like feeling that I&#8217;m being manipulated.\u00a0 I become overly-obsessed with process to avoid substance.\u00a0 But the genius of what they (Them!) did was that it worked in opposition.\u00a0 The facilitators (ugh!) did not perform perfectly, and the yoga\/massage was a great idea that, unfortunately, didn&#8217;t work.\u00a0 It&#8217;s so much better to attempt things and fail than to remain complacent &#8211; so I&#8217;m OK with all of that.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a crazy exercise.\u00a0 It was hectic.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t make me feel so good.\u00a0 But I think that it worked.\u00a0 More on this as I continue to simmer and chill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now is not the time to get into the whole psycho-babble, post-mortem, facilitated encounter (i.e. the cancer retreat), but a few quick notes are absolutely required at this moment.
