{"id":1121,"date":"2010-01-03T13:23:04","date_gmt":"2010-01-03T17:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/?p=1121"},"modified":"2010-01-03T13:23:04","modified_gmt":"2010-01-03T17:23:04","slug":"and-were-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mpomy.com\/?p=1121","title":{"rendered":"And we&#8217;re off&#8230;.!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I take a few days off and the next thing you know, I&#8217;ve got about three hundred unread items in Google Reader. \u00a0Some of these items are from that haul and some of them have whiskers on them (meaning older than three days) and some of this isn&#8217;t related to anything at all.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Let&#8217;s start with a topic that I&#8217;ve had rattling around the old coconut for a few decades now. \u00a0I<a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/5434368\/the-case-for-aliens-who-are-truly-alien\">t was nice to see Stephen Goldmeier raise the issue over at io9<\/a>, but i think his discussion only begins to scratch the surface. \u00a0The issue is aliens who, as Goldmeier puts it, are <em>truly<\/em> alien. \u00a0Forget the whole to arms, two legs, two eyes deal (Avatar &#8211; looking at you right now). \u00a0In fact, forget the whole corporeal existence. \u00a0Let&#8217;s get into something <em>really<\/em> strange. \u00a0Noticeably absent from Goldmeier&#8217;s list is 2001: A Space Odyssey (although Rendezvous with Rama is discussed).<\/li>\n<li>One of the most consistently original and authentic voices in music is gathering steam for a new Release. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nevergetoutoftheboat.blogspot.com\/2010\/01\/latin-playboys-david-hidalgo-louie.html\">From Never Get Out of the Boat, I learned this morning that the Latin Playboys (Los Lobos&#8217;
